How to Overcome Your Scarcity Mindset
Scarcity mindset. The feeling that there isn’t enough money ad clients for you and all of your competition. Tell me if this sounds familiar:
Your heart drops every time you log in to Facebook and see that a competitor has landed yet another client this week while you are still stuck at zero. And instead of thinking “Yay! Me too, please!” you get a pit in your stomach and can’t help but think “One less client for me”.
This is normal. You are just stuck in a loop of scarcity mindset fever and you just need to break the pattern. The more we give in to, and believe, in a scarcity mindset the more scarcity we will see.
If we are constantly saying to ourselves “There isn’t enough for me, there isn’t enough for me, there isn’t enough for me” that’s what we manifest.
The universe just gives us what we want, nothing more and nothing less. So when we believe that business is a zero-sum-game that’s all we see. But this isn’t healthy.
Plus, clients and customers know when you are desperate for the sale and that’s a huge turnoff for anyone. Making scarcity mindset a self fulfilling prophecy.
Keep reading for three ways you can overcome this scarcity mindset and start manifesting the abundance that you want.
Emotional Freedom Techniques
I’m a huge fan of EFT for everything. But tapping is especially useful for scarcity mindset because it allows you to express your fears in a really healthy way.
Spend some time making a list of all the things that you are afraid will happen because of your scarcity mindset. Will you forever be chasing clients only be face rejection after rejection? Will you lose your home and have to declare bankruptcy if you don’t get the sale? How will you and your family suffer? Will you have to go back to your soul crushing job and admit defeat? What’s the worst thing that could happen?
As always, if you have never done tapping before feel free to follow along with the video below.
It’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, to forgive. Forgive everybody. – Maya Angelou
I know! I know! Forgiving your competitors is pretty much the last thing you want to do right now. But forgiveness has nothing to do with them and everything to do with you. You keeping all these hate filled emotions building up inside of you does nothing to the other person and only hurts you.
You are the one with the problem. Not them. This scarcity mindset is all you. It’s holding you back, not them.
So take 5 minutes to write down al of the things you are angry about. All of the things you are blaming others for. Write it all down and then repeat, after every sentence you write, “Thank you. I love you. I forgive you.”
Repeat this until you start to feel your hatred disappear. It might take one time around, it might take 100. It’s not a race but it is something you need to work on. It’s time to start taking responsibility for your own wellbeing and scarcity mindset. Forgiveness is a huge part of taking responsibility.
Stop Feeding into Competition
Competition in business is just another way that scarcity mindset creeps in. If you are competing you still believe that there is only so much to go around. And, in my experience, it never works out in your favour.
Sure! Some friendly competition to see who can get the most Facebook likes or blog comments is fun and harmless. But competing for clients and sales is not harmless or fun. Instead, I challenge you to give. Give your competition an awesome referral. Share their social media post. Message them and ask if there is anything they need help with.
This will feel extremely painful at first, no doubt. You will feel like you are giving away all your leads, all your clients, and all your money. But, if you truly are over your scarcity mindset, you know that there will always be another sale for you just around the corner.
Giving to your competition is awesome in three major ways:
- It makes you feel good! Giving makes you feel awesome and when you feel awesome you attract awesome. Bye-bye scarcity mindset. Hello abundance!
- It makes you the go to person. Giving actually builds your credibility and influence way more than spamming Facebook groups with promotions ever could. And,
- Your competitors become your sales team. Only in vary rare circumstances will people not want to return the favour if you have done something for them. So go ahead and ask them to connect you with an influencer you would like to build a relationship with. Ask them to help you with a joint venture launch. Or pick their brain on how they manage to get their dream clients.
