Affirming Your Truths: day 9
This is part of the Unleash Your Inner Money Babe series. You can checkout yesterday’s post here.
Most of us do not make a conscious decision about what we believe. Rather, our beliefs are based on generalizations we make about our past. And unfortunately, many of us are wired to continue those negative generalizations throughout our life. This leads to pessimistic beliefs, negative self talk, and an overall sucky life.
But you have the power to un-suck your life. It all comes down to making the conscious decision to recondition your mind with empowering beliefs. Now, changing your entire belief system might seem like a daunting task. Where do you even start with that? Well, if you have been following along with the past eight days of the Unleash Your Inner Money Babe Challenge you have done a lot of the hard work already. You have decluttered your physical space, you have forgiven those you need to forgive, and you have upgraded your environment. You’ve shown gratitude for all that you have and set really specific goals. And you have let go and surrendered and gotten rid of a ton of the negativity in your life.
That’s a lot of stuff you’ve worked on!
You have done all of this stuff already so congratulations! And I hope that at this point in your journey you’re feeling pretty damn good about yourself. But sometimes when you start feeling really amazing your ego gets freaked out. It worries that you might be trying to break out of that cozy comfort zone that it has worked so hard to build. And when this happens you need a tool to stop those negative thought patterns in right away and get back on track. That’s where day nine comes in!
Affirmations are positive, brain-training statements that help to shift your focus from the negative to the positive and are used in two ways: 1. to disrupt a negative thought and 2. to create a positive thought.
Let’s start with disrupting a negative thought. When you find yourself thinking something along the lines of “I suck. I’m ugly. No one likes me. My business is going to fail.” Blah, blah, blah. Affirmations are an awesome tool to disrupt these negative thoughts and instantly switch to something positive. So when your ego says “I have no talent” you can counter with “I am beautiful, loved, and full of talent”. When you find yourself in a negative thought pattern about that thing at work yesterday you can disrupt it with an affirmation: “I’m a magnet for all good things”.
Let’s move on to creating positive feelings! I like to say affirmations to myself in the morning when I’m super tired and not really thinking about anything, just to start the day off right. When I wake I stumble to the bathroom, stand in front of the mirror, and tell myself that I am beautiful. It’s helped tremendously with my self esteem so I can truly attest to the power of affirmations.
What? How? Examples?
So like I said above an affirmation is a positive statement that helps to shift your focus from the negative to the positive. There isn’t really a right or wrong way to say affirmations. You can say them in your mind, silently. Or you can say them outloud. I do both depending on where I am and what I’m doing. I’ve found that saying them outloud is more impactful but if you find yourself in a situation where you don’t want to feel like a crazy cat lady who talks to herself then saying them in your head works just fine, too.
Here are some of my favourite affirmations:
- I am stunning
- I am a millionaire
- People love me and my work. They want to hear what I have to say
- I am open to receiving all the wealth life offers me
- Good things always happen to me
- I am lucky
- Good things are on their way to me
- Money flows into my bank account everyday
- I receive money every time I sleep, and
- I have the power to create 100% of my reality
Those are my go-to affirmations. Feel free to use some or all of mine or come up with your own. The key is to find affirmations that have meaning to you. The more emotion they invoke in you the more powerful they are and the better they will work. Come up with three affirmations today and spend tomorrow repeating them. How do you feel at the end of the day?
If you’re still having a hard time believing them, try standing in a wonder woman pose for 60 seconds before saying them again. You’ll feel a physical shift happening in your body that will allow your confidence levels to shoot up and accept what you’re saying as truth.
Let me know what affirmations you are using in the comments. I would love to read your ideas. Thank you so much for reading!
